Pool Buildings & Sliding Enclosures Questions
- How do I know what type of building or enclosure is right for my pool?
This really depends on how big your pool is, whether you want it to be permanently enclosed or open during warmer weather.
- How much do the pool buildings cost?
There is no set cost because there are lots of variations and options to choose from which will affect the costing of your new enclosure or building.
- What is a normal size for a sliding enclosure?
We generally do any width up to 22m with each section being generally 2.1m but we can arrange manufacture to any size required.
- How much will it cost to have a building for my pool?
Price will depend on whether it is a permanent building or a totally glass enclosure, whether it is a low or full height cover, the specs of the angles, roof height, completely freestanding or partly against another building - each new building or enclosure is unique to your own requirements.
- Are your prices guaranteed?
As soon as we have your full details, building specifications and measurements we will issue you a quotation that is then valid for 60 days - so if you then place the order within this time the cost will be what we quoted you as long as no changes to the specs are made.
- How soon can I have my new pool building installed?
The short answer is it depends on the time of year and the weather affecting our schedule, normally around 5 weeks in the winter months but maybe 8 weeks in the peak season. If you have a particular deadline though we will do our best to accommodate you.
- Do you always keep to the quoted delivery date?
Very rarely do our delivery/installation dates have to be changed and we do keep in touch with you once you've ordered so any delays will always be notified to you as soon as we know about them and also you can advise of any changes at your end.
- Is Planning Permission needed for a pool building or enclosure?
If the enclosure is a permanent structure, for a commercial use, will take up 50% of the garden or you are in a conservation area then planning permission would be required via your local council but we can advise you further on this when we make our site visit. For most other situations generally permission is not required.
- Can any pool surround have an enclosure?
Generally most surrounds are fine for a telescopic enclosure long as they are level and if there is a 4-6" concrete base is under the surround. But if a permanent pool building in a conservatory style is required then much deeper foundations would be required. An ideal addition to your pool area is a rubber flooring which is non-slip and comfortable to walk on - More details
- Do you do the foundations and concreting if required?
Our service comprises of doing any architectural type drawings, advising on the specifications and location of the concrete pads or foundations which you would then need to pass to a builder who will carry out the actual work.
- What glazing is used on the sides & ends of an enclosure?
Toughened safety glass is used, except for elevated/archway ends or concertina doors which are clear polycarbonate for safety reasons and weight issues. Thickness of the glass will depend on the panels which depends on he overall size of the building.
- Is the roof made of glass as well?
No, this is made up from triple ply polycarbonate sheets that are 100% UV protected.
- Do you offer a replacement service should any panels get broken?
We can replace any panel, whether a warranty claim or not, and because they are held in place using rubber, not siliconed in, replacement panels are quick and easy to replace.
- Does the enclosure need to be bolted down after every use?
We only recommend that our enclosures are securely bolted down during the winter or if high winds are forecast for safety reasons, plus if you are going to be away from your property for any length of time for security purposes. During normal summer use it should not be necessary.
- Will I need to remove snow from the roof?
The roof can withstand an average of 110kg per sq metre of snow, so generally no you wont have to but we can show you the calculations of your specific roof if you want proof.
- Is the enclosure difficult to clean?
No harder than washing a conservatory really and the aluminium has a smooth surface which prevents dirt adhering to it, so just a squeegee, soft brush & hose pipe should suffice.
- Do I still require a cover on the pool?
We recommend that you still use a floating solar cover as this will reduce condensation within the building when shut up and will reduce heating and chemical costs.
- Do the pool buildings have guttering?
Not on the telescopic glass enclosures as it is not required on this type of structure. However on other types of building it may be necessary depending on the style.
- How is the building delivered?
If it is an enclosure then it will depend on the access, sometimes fully assembled except for end panels, other times the framework and glazing on site, others the complete assembly will be done on site if access is really poor. Other building types are not in component form so they would be built on site.
- How long will it take to build my pool house?
If you are having a bespoke building then it will depend on your builders but if it is an enclosure it will depend on how much can be pre-assembled but generally around 3 days once at your property.
- On an enclosure what seals are between each glass section?
EPDM rubber gaskets secure all the glazing sections to give a weatherproof seal.
- Will this prevent leaves and insects getting into the pool?
A pool house type structure will be like your own home so if you leave it shut up probably not but open windows will allow insects in but a telescopic enclosure will not completely keep everything out but we do install rubbers, seals & brushes between sections and on the base of the sections to keep out as much as possible.
- Is a site visit done before I put in my order?
We always carry out a site visit, free of charge, before we accept an order otherwise we cannot accurately quote you. If you require planning permission first we will also provide you with the necessary drawings to accompany your application.
- Can a pool house or enclosure be put against my house?
If your pool is next to your house then an enclosure can normally be easily added with the wall of the house taking the place of one of the sides or ends of the enclosure. If planning permission is granted then an extension would be added around the pool so as to enclose it completely then roofing options would allow for sliding or fixed panels or maybe a timber style would suit.
- How does a telescopic enclosure operate?
For most installations each section is on wheels and so the telescopic sections are pushed open/closed, alternatively a motorised facility can be added which means the whole process would be automated. In commercial situations we would advise tracks be placed into the surround for safety reasons.
- Can I slide all the sections one way and how long will it take?
This will depend on the size of the enclosure. It would take no longer than 5 minutes on an average size domestic pool. With all the sections going one way it will be necessary to have an elevating end panel or concertina doors. If you don’t want to push the whole enclosure back off the pool but only require a little ventilation then you can unclip one section and open from the centre which will only take a minute.
- Is it ok to open/close the enclosure every day?
Yes it is fine to either open fully or partially the sliding parts of the enclosure whenever and how ever often as you fancy a swim.
- Will I be able to open it on my own?
As long as the paving/surround of the pool is perfectly level the guiding mechanism is designed to allow an adult to easily open & close a domestic enclosure on their own.
- Is there a choice of colours?
There are standard colours but if you have a particular colour you want, for example to match in with other window frames, we can usually match colours for you.
- How many doors will there be?
For a bespoke pool house then it will be down to what is required and for a telescopic enclosure there is one door as standard at one end but other doors can be fitted in the sides if required although this does increase the overall cost.
- Do the doors securely lock?
Each door has a latch on the inside and keys to open/lock from the outside with a child safety lock for added safety.
- Can you stand upright in the enclosures?
It depends on the height of the enclosure but in the full height buildings you can.
- Do you give a guarantee on the buildings?
Enclosures have an insurance backed guarantee which covers the aluminium structure and all buildings there is a 10 year warranty on the UV protected polycarbonate roof.
- Do you offer a DIY build enclosure?
No, the guarantee only covers installations carried out by our own team who have been fully trained in our factory.
- Is an automatic pool cleaner still needed?
It shouldn't be necessary if your pool is more or less always covered.
- What temperature will the air be inside the building?
Just like a conservatory, the air temperature will raise when sunlight hits the glazing but even on a non sunny day the air temp will be higher than outside.
- Can I swim all year around?
You would require the pool water to be heated in the winter but yes you can if you wish to.
- Does the air need to be heated in winter then?
This is personal preference, if the pool water is heated then that will raise the internal air temperature somewhat.
- Is there a problem of condensation?
Condensation will happen if the water temperature is higher than the air temp but by opening a window/door for ventilation this will clear quickly.
- Can I come and see an enclosure?
We have several on display at our showroom which you can come to see, or if you are unable to come to Wiltshire we can arrange for you to visit one of our customers that is closer to you.
- Would I be able to speak to customers who have had buildings installed by you?
Of course, we have lots of satisfied customers who are happy to discuss their installations.
